Dr. Plemmons is currently an Assistant Professor at The Citadel in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and President and Chief Executive officer for the VAB Group LLC.
Keith is a licensed Professional Engineer in South Carolina and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) as certified by the Project Management Institute. He returned to his alma mater after more than twenty years of professional and academic endeavors. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from Clemson University in 1995; his M.S. in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from Clemson University in 1991; and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from The Citadel in 1980. His progressive work experience includes positions with the US Air Force, US Navy, US Army Corps of Engineers, Mason & Hanger Engineering, Fluor Corporation, Datastream, and Metro/Keane Consulting. Keith currently sees the education and training of the next generation as the most important project in the world.
Keith has considerable professional experience in:
• Team-based project management and contract administration,
• Knowledge management and responsibility transfer (PMO and outsourcing),
• Professional development and technical education and training, and
• Leadership involvement with non-profit organizations
Keith’s recent endeavors include bringing about higher levels of achievement by creating a vision of a desired future and then translating that vision into reality. He has delivered five 36-hour Project Management Professional (PMP©) Certification Workshops to clients in the Charleston, SC area in the past five years. In the past two years and in addition to his normal undergraduate course load, he developed and delivered four graduate engineering courses in technical project management (TPM), which are the only graduate courses offered under The Citadel School of Engineering. He has served as Member and Chairman of the School Committee for the First Baptist Church School in Charleston, SC. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors for the Pile Driving Contractors of America (PDCA), South Carolina Chapter. His current endeavors include community outreach to K-12 engineering clubs and research in self-directed learning, and critical thinking. He is currently looking to do research in the area of Quality in Project Management, especially the integration of Quality into planning, leading, organizing and controlling of project work.
